Fifty-Third Sitting of the Committee on Science and Technological Development

At the sitting held on 24 June, the Committee on Science and Technological Development reviewed the Information on the preparations for the 2011 census of population, households and dwellings. The sitting was attended by Assistant Director of the Republic Statistical Office, Zoran Jancic and an associate.

Zoran Jancic said that the preparations for the census that is to take place in October 2011 are currently in their final stage. The recruiting of instructors and census takers is in particular focus and shall be subject to strict criteria with preference given to unemployed persons. Additional efforts are also spent to enable the best possible census coverage of the Roma population because they exhibit the biggest discrepancy between the real and recorded population numbers.

In the continuation, the Committee members were informed on the manner on which the population of Kosovo-Metohija is to undergo the census, as well as the census of asylum-seekers. They also requested additional information from the representatives of the Republic Statistical Office on the recruitment of census takers and how they would be paid.

The Committee members agreed that it would be very useful if the Republic Statistical Office could provide them with Information on the results of the popular censuses implemented in the states in the region as regards the number of members of the Serbian ethnicity in these states, which they would then review at a Committee sitting.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Srboljub Zivanovic.
