Fifty-Sixth Sitting of the Committee on Science and Technological Development

At the sitting held on 6 September 2011, the Committee on Science and Technological Development considered, in principle, the Patent Bill and the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, submitted by the Government.


The sitting was attended by Minister of Education and Science Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic and associates and the Director of the Intellectual Property Office Branka Totic and associates.

Elaborating the Patent Bill, Minister Obradovic stated that the basic goal the Bill is aiming to achieve is to intensify the legal protection provided to the bearer of the right. In addition, the Bill is the result of harmonisation with international treaties, as well as European Union and World Trade Organisation regulations. The drafting of the Bill included public debates where the expert and interested public had the opportunity to make suggestions and offer opinions which were incorporated in the text of the Bill, stressed Minister Obradovic. Following a short discussion, the Committee members unanimously adopted the Patent Bill.

The Bill amending and modifying the Law on Copyright and Related Rights improves the protection of the interests of the bearer of copyright and related rights, stated Minister Obradovic, adding that the proposed amendments and modifications also allow harmonisation with international treaties and European Union and World Trade Organisation regulations. Following a debate, the Committee members unanimously adopted the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Copyright and Related Rights.

In the continuation, the Committee Chairman, who also chaired the sitting, Srboljub Zivanovic informed the Committee members that he, as Committee Chairman, has been invited to take part in the World Science Forum which will be held from 16 to 19 November 2011 in Budapest, which all the Committee members agreed to.
