Fifty-Fourth Sitting of the Committee on Science and Technological Development

At the sitting held on 5 July 2011, the members of the Committee on Science and Technological Development considered the Bill on Optic Discs, submitted by the Government, in principle.

The sitting was attended by Minister of Education and Science Zarko Obradovic and an associate and the Director of the Intellectual Property Office Branka Totic and an associate.

Minister Obradovic stressed that the Bill on Optic Discs should suppress piracy in the production and commerce of optic discs containing recorded content. An expert task group comprising representatives of several ministries and the Intellectual Property Office participated in the drafting of the Bill, and the draft law also went through several public hearings. The adoption of this law is a requisite for Serbia’s membership in the World Trade Organisation, stressed Minister Obradovic.

In the ensuing debate the Committee members discussed the amount of the fines for the violators as well as the conditions for revoking the license for the production of optic discs, and were also informed about the implementation of the already adopted Law on Copyright and Related Rights.

The Committee members unanimously adopted the Bill on Optic Discs in principle.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Srboljub Zivanovic, MA.
