Fifth Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

At the sitting held on 21 December and closed to the public, the Security Services Control Committee reviewed and adopted the Report on the security situation in the Republic of Serbia and the Security Information Agency Activity Report for the period 1 October 2015 - 31 July 2016.


The Report covers the Activity’s most important activities in said period which give a comprehensive overview of the work and the realised activities and tasks within the Agency’s purview. The Committee gave a positive assessment of the professional conduct and work of the Security Information Agency’s personnel and gave the Agency full support in the pursuit of its priority tasks concerning the protection of the security and other interests of the Republic of Serbia and its citizens. The need to pass a new normative framework to regulate the operation of the Security Information Agency according to contemporary European standards was a matter of particular focus, as was the Committee members’ readiness to take active part in said activities. The Committee agreed that the Republic of Serbia needs to apply those means which adequately contribute to the preservation of national security and enable the security services to adequately respond to security threats and risks.

The Committee also decided to conduct a supervisory visit and control of the Security Information Agency Headquarters in Belgrade and Military Intelligence Agency Headquarters in Belgrade in line with its 2016 Activity Plan. These decisions specify the date for the supervisory visits, composition of the Committee’s delegations and the topic and objectives of the supervisory visits.

The Committee also reviewed the civic petitions concerning issues within its scope of activity.
