At its sitting on 16 October, the Local Self-Government Committee, in dealing with the operations of local self-government, discussed the facts and circumstances of the sitting of the City of Belgrade Assembly held on 8 October, where city officials were elected.

The Committee sitting was chaired by Jovan Palalic.

The Committee members from the Deputies’ Groups of the Serbian Radical Party and Socialist Party of Serbia pointed out that the Law on Local Self-Government and the Serbian Constitution have been violated in the election of the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the City of Belgrade Assembly. Procedure was breached during the nomination of candidates for the posts of city officials, and it was not possible for the opposition deputies to submit their candidates. They also stated that the acting Deputy Mayor was named foregoing the rules of procedure. The Committee members received the shorthand of the sitting of the City of Belgrade Assembly of 8 October.

Based on the stated objections and suggestions, the Committee decreed that the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, in line with the Law on Local Self-Government, ascertains all the relevant facts pertaining to this case as soon as possible, brings adequate measures within its jurisdiction and informs the Committee about it.
