30 January 2017 Fifth Sitting of the Health and Family Committee
After the reports of the representatives of health care institutions from the Toplica District, Doc. Dr Ferenc Vicko, State Secretary at the Ministry of Health, agreed that it is imperative to change the manner of financing, stressing that one of the chief objectives of the Ministry of Health is also to conduct and invest into screening so to reduce death outcomes of cervical, breast and colon cancer.
Committee Chairman Dr Sci. med. Darko Laketic said that, in cooperation with the executive and in line with the law, it is imperative to improve health care services in the Toplica District and across the country.
After the debate, the Committee adopted the following Conclusion:
- Having reviewed the buildings, equipment and personnel of Prokuplje General Hospital, and interviewed persons in charge about the situation in the health clinics in the region, the Committee notes that the working conditions of the health care service are sub-par, especially in Prokuplje General Hospital where the conditions in the surgical bloc, its operating and prep rooms, were found to be truly dismal.
- Considering that the Republic as common health care interest supplies funds for the construction and equipment of state-owned health care institutions in its possession, the Committee suggests that the Ministry of Health secure the funds needed for an urgent reconstruction of Prokuplje General Hospital surgical bloc to optimize the solution for the health care needs of the citizens of Toplica District and improve the quality of health care, for the preservation and improvement of the citizens’ health, which is important for other areas with similar problems.

Darko Laketic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Dr Branislav Blazic, Prof. Dr Milan Knezevic, Dr Dragana Barisic, Dr Ljubica Mrdakovic Todorovic, Dr Svetlana Nikolic Pavlovic, Milovan Krivokapic, Marko Zeljug, Danijela Stojadinovic, Dr Danica Bukvic, Vladimir Djuric, Gordana Comic, Milena Bicanin, Dragan Vesovic, Vesna Ivkovic, as well as MPs MA Marko S.
