Fifth Meeting of the Serbian Parliamentary Energy Policy Forum

At the meeting held on 17 May, the members of the Serbian Parliamentary Energy Policy Forum discussed adjusting energy and climate change policies.


Parliamentary Forum Chairperson Dr Aleksandra Tomic presented the conclusions of the Fourth Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue “Towards global energy transition”. She said that the transition to sustainable energy sources is a global challenge and as such requires a global solution, one secured through international dialogue and cooperation. Energy diplomacy and transition have a huge impact on world order, said Tomic stressing the importance of transition to renewable energy sources.

Director of the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence Sonja Licht said that there is only one best energy policy and that is policy of energy efficiency. It is important to conserve energy and be aware that energy is a limited resource, said Sonja Licht stressing that public dialogue on the sustainable use of energy is developed in South-East Europe.

Regional manager of the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ) SEE Open Regional Fund for Energy Efficiency Jasna Sekulovic said that climate change is a planet-wide challenge. She stressed that political will is essential for energy transition and parliaments and parliamentarians can be the generators of that political will.

Chairperson of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy Snezana B. Petrovic spoke about the use of biomass for energy purposes in her presentation of Serbia-Germany partnership projects.

Deputy Director of the Energy Community Secretariat Dirk Buschle spoke about the process of “de-carbonization” i.e. transition from coal to renewable energy sources.

Member of the Committee on the Economy, Regional Development, Trade, Tourism and Energy Snezana R. Petrovic presented the conclusions from the meeting of the Energy Community Parliamentary Plenum.
RES Foundation Programme Director Aleksandar Macura spoke about energy poverty and energy transition - a topic that affects all the households in Serbia.
