The Faculty is part of the University of Kragujevac and in its very first year boasts 100 students, 60 financed from the budget and 40 self-paying.

National Assembly Speaker and Vice Chancellor of the University of Kragujevac Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic said that in 2006 Serbia adopted a tourism development strategy by 2015, which is the year when the current freshmen would put their skills to use. Djukic-Dejanovic says she believes that the first freshmen of the Faculty of Hotel Management and Tourism will study in accordance with the Latin proverb that we learn
not for school, but for life.

The Faculty of Hotel Management and Tourism in Vrnjacka Banja was ceremonially opened by the Minister of Education and Science Zarko Obradovic.
