European Integration Committee Members Talk to Danish Parliamentary Delegation

The members of the European Integration Committee met today, at the National Assembly House, with a delegation of the Danish Parliament’s European Affairs Committee, headed by the Committee Chairperson, Eva Hansen.

The members of the Danish parliamentary delegation were interested in the reform process in Serbia in light of the imminent EU membership talks, the National Assembly’s role in the process, as well as Serbia’s stance on the Kosovo-Metohija issue.

European Integration Committee Chairperson Natasa Vuckovic thanked the members of the Danish parliamentary delegation for Denmark’s support of Serbia’s efforts on the road to the European Union. She mentioned that the technical dialogue on EU membership has begun in Brussels today. Vuckovic added that the full implementation of the SAA had started on 1 September, stressing that one of the priorities is to maintain the results achieved so far, among them to preserve the visa-free regime with the European states.

Presenting the National Assembly’s future activities, the European Integration Committee Chairperson informed the guests that a Draft Resolution is being prepared to define the National Assembly’s role in the EU talks. She said it was important to define the role both of the European Integration Committee and the other assembly committees in the negotiations process. Vuckovic added that civil society should also play a significant role in said process.

Taking part in the discussion, European Integration Committee members Vladimir Ilic, Milanka Karic, Jelena Trivan and Dragan Sormaz underlined Serbia’s firm commitment to full EU membership. The Committee members also highlighted the importance of the implementation of the Brussels Agreement and respecting the rights of all the citizens living in Kosovo-Metohija. The key areas necessitating reform in the negotiations process, according to the Committee members, are the judiciary, economy, agriculture and combating organised crime.

The meeting was also attended by Committee members Laszlo Varga and Karolj Cizik.
