European Integration Committee Chairperson Meets with GIZ Representative

National Assembly Deputy Speaker and Chairperson of the European Integration Committee Elvira Kovacs met today with the representative of GIZ – project Regional Cooperation for EU Integration Marina Ignjatovic to speak about the planned project activities, the focus of which is the development of principles for effective parliamentary oversight of the European integration process.

Elvira Kovacs expressed satisfaction with the regional connections and cooperation of the committees responsible for European integration, which is also implemented through this GIZ project.

Marina Ignjatovic said that the analysis of the work capacity of the European integration committees of the parliaments of the region determined five areas of exceptional importance on which the project will focus: legislative function, supervisory function, parliamentary diplomacy, committees’ administrative capacity and communication about the importance of European integration.

Kovacs particularly emphasised the importance of familiarising citizens in local areas with all the benefits for everyday life that European interactions bring adding that it would be extremely important to hold a session of the European Integration Committee outside the National Assembly seat, so that MPs could point out all and the advantages and opportunities brought by European integration.
