European Integration Committee Chairman Meets with French Senate’s European Affairs Committee Member

The Chairman of the European Integration Committee Nenad Canak met with Olivier Cadic, member of the French Senate’s Committee for European Affairs currently in official visit to the Republic of Serbia.

The two officials review Serbia’s progress as regards European integration, stressing that the country has so far opened 14 chapters and prepared further four for opening. They also spoke about the Resolution on Serbia and the talks between Belgrade and Pristina where the European Integration Committee Chairman once again stressed that Serbia is investing enormous efforts to advance the talks but the process is complex and slow. He added that the European Integration Committee is doing all in its power to advance Euro-integration, which is greatly facilitated by the fact that the majority of the MPs endorse the EU accession process. The Committee Chairman added that the National Convention on the EU with its 700 NGOs is taking active part in the Euro-integration efforts adding that one of the roles of the Committee he chairs is to finalize the bills and documents before they are submitted to the National Assembly for consideration.

Cadic said that the objective of his visit is to help the Balkan countries to join the European Union as soon as possible and explain to his compatriots that the accession of the countries in the region is a boon for the Union. Cadic added that Serbia has made considerable progress since his last visit and that he sees the country as a reliable partner. He once again highlighted Serbia’s management of the migration crisis, adding that many EU countries would do well to follow its example.
