Ensuring equal rights for people of Kosovo and Metohia

Chairmen of the National Assembly’s Committee on Defence and Security, Dragan Sutanovac, and the Committee on Kosovo and Metohia, Momcilo Trajkovic, sent a letter on 11 June 2003 to international organisations and institutions, asking for the international community to ensure equal rights for all people living in Kosovo and Metohia.

The letter was sent as agreed at the joint session of the two Committees held on 16 May 2003.

The letter expresses the readiness of the Republic of Serbia to solve all open questions in a peaceful manner, through dialogue between representatives of Albanian and Serbian communities in Kosovo and Metohia, with the participation of European Union and United States representatives. The Committees reiterate that many provisions of the UN Security Council’s Resolution 1244 are not fully complied with, which brings into question peace and stability in the entire Western Balkans.

The letter was sent to the UN Security Council, the Foreign Policy Committee of the United States Congress, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, as well as to the Council of Ministers of the European Union.
