Eleventh Sitting of the Committee on Interethnic Relations

The Committee on Interethnic Relations held its eleventh sitting on 16 March. The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Miletic Mihajlovic and attended by Minister of Human and Minority Rights Svetozar Ciplic and State Secretary at the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights Aniko Muskinja Hajnrih.



The Committee on Interethnic Relations held its eleventh sitting on 16 March. The sitting was chaired by the Committee Chairman, Miletic Mihajlovic and attended by Minister of Human and Minority Rights Svetozar Ciplic and State Secretary at the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights Aniko Muskinja Hajnrih.

The Committee considered the Report on course of preparations of the elections for the National Councils of National Minorities.

Minister of Human and Minority Rights Svetozar Ciplic informed the Committee members that out of about 650 000 Serbian citizens, members of certain ethnic groups, by 9 March 2010, 339 321 members of ethnic minorities have registered on special voters rolls. He stated that on 6 June 2010 out of 19 ethnic minority groups, 16 shall elect national councils in a direct election while the Macedonian, Slovenian and Croatian ethnic minorities would do so at electoral councils. The members of the following ethnic minorities have the right to direct elections: Albanians, Ashkalis, Bosniaks, Bulgarians, Bunjevac minority, Vlachs, Greeks, Egyptians, Hungarians, Germans, Roma, Romanians, Ruthenians, Slovaks, Ukrainians and the Czech.
