Eighth and Ninth Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

At the sittings held on 20 May 2021, the Security Services Control Committee considered and adopted the Security Information Agency Activity Report for the period to 31 March 2021, Report on the security situation in the Republic of Serbia for the period to 25 April 2021, as well as the 2020 Report on the Procurement of Goods, Services and Works.

The Committee members gave a positive assessment of the achieved level of counter-intelligence and security protection of persons and facilities in terms of the activities undertaken by the Agency to ensure the timely detection, monitoring, documentation and interception of activities aimed at endangering persons and facilities under protection.

The Committee emphasized the importance of continuous improvement of cooperation with other state bodies and institutions of the Republic of Serbia, as well as with other security services of the Republic of Serbia for the purpose of ensuring a functional and operational connection for the realisation of objectives and tasks prescribed by law. The importance of this cooperation was especially emphasised in that sense, resulting in breaking up a criminal clan that threatened to endanger the lives of the most important state officials and undermine the security of the state.

The security situation in the Republic of Serbia was declared stable, despite the country’s continuous exposure to various security challenges, risks and threats, the manifestation of which is of greater or lesser intensity.

The reports cover all of the most important activities of the Agency in the reporting period, giving the Committee members a comprehensive insight into the work of the Security Information Agency and the degree of realisation of activities and tasks within the Agency’s purview. In the course of the reporting period and despite the pandemic, the Security Information Agency’s engagement was primarily aimed at protecting the vital interests of the Republic of Serbia and at the key risks and threats to the country's security.

The Committee members praised the Agency's efforts to continuously improve bilateral and multilateral cooperation with partner security and intelligence services in order to address security risks and threats adequately and in a timely manner.

The sittings, closed to the public, were chaired by Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Aleksandar Markovic, Borisav Kovacevic, Goran Pekarski, Jelena Mijatovic, Justina Pupin Koscal and Andrijana Avramov.
