Eighth Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

At the sitting held on 24 January 2017 and closed to the public, the Security Services Control Committee formulated its 2017 Activity Plan. According to the Activity Plan, the Security Services Control Committee is to have sittings outside of the Assembly seat to review the security services’ regular reports, pay supervisory visits to security services’ regional centres, and fully exercise its authorities relating to the control of the security services’ work.

The Committee decided to pay supervisory visits to the Novi Sad centres of all three security agencies, and set the date and objectives of the supervisory visits. The Committee members decided that, in light of current events and terrorist threats as real security challenges, in addition to inspecting the legality of the centres’ work, their visits should focus on reviewing the situation therein, technical readiness and on resolving possible problems so as to boost the centres’ efficiency. They opined that the security situation in Europe requires a higher degree of engagement and cooperation between all the government structures and the security services. As the Republic of Serbia has a defined legislative framework concerning security and defence, the Committee members said that the security challenges, risks and threats call for its revision so as to amend certain laws and pass by-laws to allow for better efficiency of the security services and boost the citizens’ security and safety.

The Committee plans to dedicate some of its sittings to civic proposals and petitions relating to the security services’ work, and some to review bills and other regulations and general documents within the services’ purview, as needed.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman MA Igor Becic, and attended by the following Committee members: Dragan Sormaz, Vladimir Djukanovic and Sasa Radulovic, and deputy members: Prof. Dr Zoran Dragisic and Dr Milorad Mijatovic.
