Eighth Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 4 December, the Foreign Affairs Committee accepted the initiative to form a standing delegation of the National Assembly to the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly, with the status of observer, which it would forward to the National Assembly Speaker.

In the debate, it was proposed that the Serbian Government i.e. the competent ministries of defence and foreign affairs, should rule on the initiative first and the National Assembly should follow.
The Committee members stressed that the delegation would have the status of observer in a parliamentary assembly and the National Assembly should rule on it, after which it accepted the initiative by a majority of votes.

The Committee also considered the Proposal for the Constitution of Parliamentary Friendship Groups with 63 states and five regions. Committee Chairman Milos Aligrudic deemed that there is great deal of interest for the work of parliamentary friendship groups. He said that two candidates have been nominated for heads of parliamentary groups of 29 states. Aligrudic again requested that all the parliamentary groups submit their nominations for heads of friendship groups, as well as agree which of the nominated candidates would be leading them, by the middle of next week, so that the final proposal could be discussed at the National Assembly Collegium.

At the sitting, the Committee accepted the invitation to take part in the parliamentary training programme organised by the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, in Brussels, from 4 to 6 March 2013. As part of the standing delegations’ regular activities, they accepted the invitation extended to the members of the Serbian delegation to take part in the regular session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg, 21-25 January 2013.

The Committee members also accepted several reports on the parliamentary visits, meetings and contacts realised by Serbian parliamentarians with foreign parliamentarians and dignitaries.

The sitting was chaired by Milos Aligrudic, Committee Chairman.
