EU – Best Organized Community of People and States

There is no better of better organized community of people and states than the EU is the message of the meeting of the Head and Deputy Head of the Serbian Progressive Part Parliamentary Group (SNS PG) Dr Aleksandar Martinovic and Dr Vladimir Orlic with the members of the French National Assembly Pierre-Yves le Borgn' and Jean-Claude Mignon.

SNS PG Head Dr Aleksandar Martinovic said that Serbia is firmly committed to EU accession and added that the National Assembly does not pass laws as a matter of form, to be able to open negotiating chapters, but for the sake of the citizens of Serbia.

“We are sure that we venerate the same values as the other European people, we consider it important to implement the European principles in our legal system, so that the Serbian citizens could live as good as the people of the EU member states. As the parliamentary group which is the backbone of the Government we are proud to make the right decisions to improve the economic and financial situation in the country”, said Martinovic.

Speaking of foreign policy, Martinovic said that his parliamentary group absolutely supports the Serbian Government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Western Balkans.

“We want to have the best possible relations with our neighbours, peace and better economic cooperation. Serbia is the last country on the Balkans which would profit from escalated tensions, because it is in our interest to promote economic growth and investments, the cornerstone of political stability both in the country and the neighbourhood”, said Martinovic.

Speaking with the French parliamentarians, he expressed worry over the recent anti-Serb incidents in Croatia, the statements made by Bosniaks in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the rising tensions in Kosovo-Metohija, saying that the SNS PG rightfully expects the EU states to take part in defusing the tensions though a balanced approach both to the Serbian and Albanian side.

“Aware of the fact that all the people on the territory of former Yugoslavia have suffered a lot in the wars, as people and as politicians we are deeply sorry because of it, but we would like to stress that the Serbian people in Kosovo-Metohija have suffered the biggest sacrifices and we expect the French judiciary to act in accordance with the agreements it has with Serbia and extradite Haradinaj who is accused of war crimes, to the Serbian judiciary, and demonstrate that there is justice for the Serbian victims”, said Martinovic.

Speaking of the migrant crisis, the Serbian parliamentarians also stressed the humane treatment of the migrants who have been provided with housing, food and medical assistance. Martinovic said that Serbia is currently home to 7000 migrants headed for one of the EU states. He took the opportunity to thank France and the EU for the financial support provided to Serbia for the housing of migrants.
