On the behalf of the National Assembly the meeting was attended by the co-chairman of the EU-Serbia Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee Dr Vladimir Orlic.

In the first part of the meeting, the representative of the European Commission and the Head of Serbia’s Negotiating Team said that the preparations for the talks are progressing without impediments, that Serbia has shown exceptional solidarity and readiness to take part in resolving the ongoing migrant crisis, and dedication and cooperation in the talks with Pristina.

Orlic briefed the attending on the legislative and oversight activities of the National Assembly, its working bodies and the MPs themselves in the past year, with a special focus on the debates on the proposed legislation, inclusion of civic associations in the legislative and oversight process and the role of the National Assembly in the negotiation process with the EU. He said he was pleased by the increased inclusion of the National Assembly working bodies in the discussion on the negotiating positions and action plans, as well as the ongoing dialogue with representatives of civil associations.

The first part of the meeting also touched on the reform of public administration and finances, local self-government, regional cooperation, foreign and security policy.

The second part will be focusing on meeting economic criteria and the implementation of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
