Dr Vladimir Orlic Promotion of First Monograph on National Assembly “Mirror of the Will of the People of Serbia”

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic spoke today at the promotion of the first monograph on the National Assembly "Mirror of the Will of the People of Serbia", held on the day when, in 1936, the National Assembly held its first session in the building on today's Nikola Pasic Square.

As he emphasised, today's day has historical significance for the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia. "There are different criteria for calling something historically significant. For Belgrade, it was the day when the bypass it had been waiting for decades was finally opened, as well as the day when we unveiled the monument to the founder of the medieval Serbian state, Stefan Nemanja, the time when the magnificent St. Sava Temple was finally completed, as well as the final opening of train station "Prokop" which is happening right now. Thus, for its part, our National Assembly remembers some dates and events in particular and calls them historical. The presentation of the first monograph, the capital work on our Assembly, is like that for us," said Dr Orlic.

He thanked the authors, the publisher of the monograph, and everyone who collaborated on its creation, listing all the important historical events and dates the monograph includes, as well as special units related to the architecture and cultural-artistic value of the edifice of the Serbian Parliament. He said that copies of the monograph are already in the possession of numerous parliaments and that the first one that came out of the press was sent to the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic, with best wishes for the further progress of Serbia, its future in which we will record new victories of historical significance and which generations will be proud of. "We know that great results are not possible if we are not united and in agreement on them. It is only up to us whether we will be able to, working together, ensure a better tomorrow. And that our Assembly should always be a true mirror of the will of its people and the House that will, as strongly as it can, work exclusively for its people and serve only them - and no one else. Yes, regardless of the challenges and difficulties, let us continue to pursue only the sovereign, free and independent policy that we lead today, which guarantees an even better future and in which the word of the people and their will, will remain inviolable", concluded the National Assembly Speaker.

The authors of the monograph Prof. Dr Aleksandar Rastovic and Prof. Dr Igor Borozan, as well as the Director of "Pravoslavna rečc" publishing house Zoran Gutovic also spoke at the promotion. The meeting was attended by the deputy speakers of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic, representatives of the ministries, religious communities, cultural institutions, as well as numerous representatives of the diplomatic corps. As part of the promotion, the National Assembly organised an exhibition of watercolours by architect Nikolai Krasnov and photographs created during the construction of the edifice from 1915 to 1950.
