Dr Vladimir Orlic Meets with Russian Federation Council Delegation

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Dr Vladimir Orlic met today with a delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation headed by Yelena Afanasyeva, Head of the Group for Cooperation with the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Dr Orlic welcomed the delegation of the Federation Council to the Assembly of Serbia, which, as he pointed out, represents the mirror of the sovereign will of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia. "In the free elections that we held last year, which you had the opportunity to observe, the people of Serbia overwhelmingly supported a free, sovereign and independent policy that, in the first place, takes care of our state and national interests, led by the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic," said the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Speaking about the extremely difficult and complex situation in the southern Serbian province, Dr Orlic pointed out the dangerous, unilateral moves directed against the Serbian people, undertaken on a daily basis by the regime of Albin Kurti. He also reminded the guests that today marks ten years since the signing of the Brussels Agreement and that Pristina has been ignoring and denying the accepted obligation to form a Community of Serb Municipalities just as long. Afanasyeva pointed out that Russia's position on the Kosovo-Metohija issue would not change and conveyed her support and understanding for our country’s positions, which the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia thanked her for.

In the course of the meeting, the officials expressed their satisfaction with the interparliamentary cooperation achieved so far, as well as readiness for its further development. Afanasyeva especially highlighted the importance of cooperation within regional and international parliamentary organisations, as well as the importance of maintaining constant contacts between parliamentary friendship groups, which could contribute to connecting regions and cities in the Republic of Serbia and the Russian Federation and their closer cooperation in the fields of culture, education and the economy.

The meeting with the National Assembly Speaker was attended by Vladimir Krugly and Andrey Chernyshev, delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, as well as the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko.
