Dr Orlic thanked Mexico for its principled and clear stance on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, as well as its non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of so-called "Kosovo". "That is Serbia’s clear position and essentially principled attitude which the whole world had the opportunity to hear during President Aleksandar Vucic’s historic speech before the United Nations General Assembly. Failure to respect the basic principles of international law means striking at the very foundations of the UN. Thank you for being on the same side in defence of those principles," said the National Assembly Speaker.

He pointed out that, thanks to the efforts of President Vucic, most of the member states of the United Nations today support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country. "In addition to the 18 publicly withdrawn recognitions of the fake state, the President of Serbia was handed a large number of new notes withdrawing recognition, one during his stay in New York. These are important results," said Dr Orlic, thanking Mexico for its support concerning so-called "Kosovo’s" application for membership in international organisations.

Ambassador Felix took the opportunity to personally congratulate Dr Orlic on his election as National Assembly Speaker and, on behalf of the embassy and the United Mexican States, emphasised support for Serbia on all most important issues. "Our countries have long fought for the defence of territorial integrity and sovereignty, and Mexico, like Serbia, strongly advocates respect for international law. On the basis of our principled foreign policy, founded on our history and full respect for international law and on the firm friendship between our peoples, Mexico has always expressed its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia with regard to Kosovo-Metohija, in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244. I assure you that our position will not change," said the Ambassador.

Dr Orlic underlined that, despite the pressures, the irresponsible and irrational behaviour of Pristina, Serbia remains committed to dialogue. "Official Belgrade strongly advocates for the preservation of peace and stability, at the same time protecting its national and state interests, and everyone in the world can see that," said the National Assembly Speaker.

Serbia is interested in cooperation in all areas of mutual interest, primarily the economy, where it hopes to raise the total volume of trade to an even higher level. "Serbia is undeniably the best place for investment in this part of Europe, and despite all the problems, we expect more than three billion euros of direct foreign investment. Therefore, we welcome all previous investments, and we look forward to future investments from your country," said Dr Orlic.

Ambassador Felix agreed that trade should be increased, saying that Serbia can benefit from Mexico's position in world trade. He confirmed that the relations between the two countries are excellent despite the geographical distance and that they are based on mutual respect and understanding. "Mexico and Serbia have always been good friends, count on our support," said the Ambassador.

Speaking about interparliamentary cooperation, Dr Orlic expressed his great satisfaction that the new parliamentary legislature would also have a Friendship Group with the United Mexican States.
