The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Dr Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic received today Jelko Kacin, European Parliament rapporteur on Serbia.
Both officials noted Serbia’s considerable progress in fulfilling the requirements for its accession to the European Union. The fact is that the further process shall greatly depend on the report of Serge Brammertz, Hague Tribunal Prosecutor.
In was noted that NARS has developed a dynamic parliamentary activity not only in the region, but with many EU member states as well. The Assembly Speaker believes it very important to take big steps towards improving parliamentary cooperation with parliaments from the territory of the former SFRY.
The officials agreed that contacts on the highest level between NARS and the members of the European Parliament in both Belgrade and Strasbourg would bring Serbia’s parliamentary activity closer to the European Parliament members. That would be greatly useful for the next steps to be taken in meeting all the requirements set out in the Roadmap.
