Dacic: Much Discussed Social Card Law, Passed

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic announced that the National Assembly would hold another extraordinary session, on Tuesday, 23 February.

Dacic told the journalists gathered in the Central Hall of the National Assembly House, that the Parliament’s regular session is to commence in March in the course of which the National Assembly would, among other things, discuss amendments and modifications to the Law on Origin of Property and the election of a number of judges to judicial office for the first time.

He added that the most important law was passed at the Second Extraordinary Session – the much discussed Social Card Law, one, he said, talked about for many years.

Dacic said that "a system that has always been missing will be created, vital for enabling the people to exercise their rights in the field of social policy" and it will also allow the state insight into any possible abuse.

The Parliament Speaker said that the Assembly’s work plan will be determined in the course of the year, but that it necessitates good coordination with the Government, as political consultations will be needed.

"Among other things, the topic which necessitates consultation is the proposal to amend the Constitution of Serbia. That proposal also implies a conversation with any interested party and making assessments when these amendments to the Constitution could be completed", said Dacic.

He said that it is necessary that the constitutional amendment begin and end within one Assembly legislature.

According to him, amendments will be the most important issue if the constitutional changes are adopted.

Speaking about the inter-party dialogue, Dacic said that "nothing new has happened" and that the current issues are of technical nature.

As he said, it should be determined who should participate in the dialogue, what the format would be, as well as the topics and dynamics of the dialogue.

He added that it is important to determine what is to happen to the parties that do not want to participate in the presence of European representatives, adding that a certain number of independent MPs appeared who want to participate in the dialogue.
