The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, today met the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Lubomir Zaoralek.

Mr Markovic underlined the need of establishing direct co-operation between the two parliaments, especially noting that positive experiences of the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia, as well as regional co-operation, were examples that could be of great use in the process of Serbia’s accession to European integrations. Mr Markovic expressed his gratitude for the assistance provided by the Czech Republic to Serbia in the past, as well as for the understanding shown by the Czech Republic for Serbia’s position that its direct participation was indispensable in solving the status of Kosovo and Metohia.

Mr Zaoralek expressed the readiness of the Czech Parliament to contribute to the process of harmonising Serbian legislation with European standards, by passing on experiences, and with the aim of accelerating Serbia’s integration into the European Union.

The talks, attended by representatives of all deputies’ groups from both parliaments, resulted in the establishment of co-operation at the level of European integrations committees of both parliaments. This is to be the first step towards establishing broad co-operation between the two parliaments.

The Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, Lubomir Zaoralek, extended an official invitation to Mr Markovic to visit the Czech Parliament as soon as possible.
