Cotric in Kyiv: Serbia, Positive Example for All European States

Serbia could be a positive example and a role model for all the European states in terms of its legislation and regulatory practice as regards the status of national minorities and relationship with its compatriots in the region and the world”, said member of the Committee on the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region Aleksandar Cotric in Kyiv, at the regional conference entitled "Platform for co-operation policies: role of diaspora associations and synergies with public authorities".


Speaking at the international gathering co-organized by the Ukrainian Parliament (Verkhovna Rada) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Cotric said that economic development, peace and stability in the region are Serbia’s chief objectives as well as advancing its global image which are all essential for Serbia’s efficient care for the four million Serbs around the world. Cotric added that the rights of all the national minorities in Serbia are regulated according to the highest legal and democratic standards and fully implemented in all areas of life and levels of government. MP Cotric added that Serbia maintains a well-organized and continuous relationship with Serbs in the region and financially assists their survival and return to the territories they were exiled from. Serbia also actively supports the work of Serbian cultural, educational, scientific, media, sport and other organizations in the region and the diaspora because the four million Serbs living abroad are a vital resource and developmental potential said the Serbian MP.

The Conference in Kyiv, held on 24 September, was attended by representatives of international organizations, governments, state authorities and parliaments from Serbia, Ukraine, Poland, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, Croatia, Switzerland, Belgium, Egypt, Morocco, Sudan, Algeria and more.
