Cooperation between Serbian and Mexican Parliamentarians Significantly Contributes to Improvement of Bilateral Relations

The Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Mexico Ana Karadzic and PFG members Tijana Davidovac and Bojan Torbica had a virtual meeting with the Head of the Mexican Congress Friendship Group with Serbia Mirta Villavaso to discuss further cooperation.

Ana Karadzic stressed that Serbia and Mexico enjoy friendly relations, without any outstanding issues. She thanked Mexico for its principled position and non-recognition of the independence of the so-called state of Kosovo, showing respect for international law and Serbia’s territorial integrity.

Karadzic emphasised the importance of parliamentary diplomacy, highlighting the good cooperation between Serbian and Mexican parliamentarians in international parliamentary organisations and forums, especially their mutual support and good cooperation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

There is room to intensify bilateral relations between parliamentarians, she said, through more intensive cooperation and exchange of visits of parliamentary friendship group delegations. The National Assembly also accepted the Mexican Parliament’s initiative to sign an agreement of cooperation between the two parliaments, which would further concretise inter-parliamentary cooperation, said the Head of the PFG.

Ana Karadzic added that there is also interest in improving economic relations and trade between the two countries, as well as cultural, educational, military-technical and police cooperation. She welcomed the Mexican investment in Serbia in the field of telecommunications, as the VIP company is an investment of the Mexican telecommunications company "America Movil".

Mirta Viljavaso stressed that Mexico attaches great importance to cooperation with Serbia and the creation of strong ties of friendship. The exchange of parliamentary visits will certainly contribute to the deepening of this friendship, she agreed with her counterparts, expressing the expectation that the epidemiological situation will allow that to happen in the near future. She added that Mexican parliamentarians are ready to work on the improvement of cultural and economic cooperation, for the benefit of the citizens of Serbia and Mexico.

The virtual meeting was also attended by Serbian Ambassador to Mexico Tatjana Conic and Mexican Ambassador to Serbia Carlos Felix.
