Conference “We Remember and Stand with the US”

The National Assembly House hosted the Conference “We Remember and Stand with the US”, dedicated to the memory of the terrorist attacks of 9/11 in New York and Washington, organized by the Serbian-American Friendship Congress (KSAP).

MP Prof. Dr Vladimir Marinkovic, founder of KSAP, said that, in terms of cruelty and consequences, the 9/11 attack was one of the most difficult terrorist attacks on freedom and human rights.

“Today, we would like to express our solidarity, empathy and friendship with the American people. This terrorist act has united the entire democratic world in resistance of terrorism and violence. Serbia denounced this act with its politics, both internal and international, and confirmed its readiness to unyieldingly face and oppose any and all acts of terrorism”, said Marinkovic.

He emphasized the importance of the Agreement on the normalization of economic relations between Belgrade and Pristina signed in Washington and the opening of the office of the US International Development Finance Corporation in Belgrade, which sends a positive signal to potential investors that Serbia is a good and promising destination for investment. Marinkovic also stressed that the American administration’s support is a huge opportunity for our country.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic, Director of the Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies Jelena Milic and US Ambassador to Serbia Anthony Godfrey spoke at the conference, as well as Nadezda Muzkina on behalf of NDI via video link, while Alabama Congressman Robert Aderholt sent a video message. The MPs, representatives of IRI, NDI, USAID, Head of the NATO Office Belgrade and KSAP attendees followed the conference on the online platform.

The participants were reminded that almost 3000 people lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, and the ensuing global reaction opened a wide front in the fight against terrorism.

The goal of today’s conference is to advance political and economic relations, cooperation and friendship between the US and the Republic of Serbia and their joint anti-terrorist efforts.
