The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, today met the Foreign Minister of FYR Macedonia, Antonio Milososki.
The Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Predrag Markovic, today met the Foreign Minister of FYR Macedonia, Antonio Milososki.
Mr Markovic and Mr Milososki agreed that Serbia and Macedonia were not facing problems, but unresolved issues, and that the two nations were ready to constructively develop their relations. The two officials declared themselves in favour of reaching a compromise solution for the issue of Kosovo and Metohia, which they said was of great importance for the entire region, adding that any future solution would have to contribute to democratisation, meeting standards, and protecting human rights. Mr Markovic expressed his expectation that Macedonia would support solution for Kosovo that both sides achieve through negotiation, as well as one that ensures long-term stability in the region through guarantees of the international community.
Markovic and Milososki especially underlined that government bodies at all levels were obliged to foster and encourage religious communities to solve problems, as well as that parliamentary ‘friendship groups’, and formal and informal initiatives should be utilised to ensure and improve co-operation in the fields of economy, infrastructure, and security projects.
