Brnabic: Region Needs Peace, Stability and Certainty

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic opened the Solemn Session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska in Banja Luka, saying that the region needs peace, stability and certainty, which is possible with full respect of the Dayton Agreement and consideration and appreciation of the Serbian people wherever they may live - nothing more and nothing less.

Saying that it is her honour to address the Parliament of Srpska shortly after it adopted the Declaration announced at the All-Serbian Assembly in Belgrade on 8 June. Brnabic said that the day of the All-Serbian Assembly was a day when we celebrated our unity and when we should have put all political differences aside.

"It was a day in which we did something for us, not something against someone," said Brnabic.

She pointed out that on the day of the All-Serbian Assembly, when the Declaration was adopted, which was ratified in the NARS, and soon to be, she announced, in the Serbian Assembly, Brnabic pointed out that at that time it was an unambiguous call for peace, respect, reverence for all victims war, as well as full compliance with the Dayton Peace Agreement.

"Not with a single word in the Declaration did we offend any people, nor violate the territorial integrity of any state," said Brnabic, stressing that in all other aspects the All-Serbian Assembly dealt with the present and the preservation of our traditions, language, script and customs, as some do other nations. When convening the Assembly, we had in mind the future and the fact that it is possible to be of Serbian origin, without it being a threat to another nation. Serbian unity and the request that it be respected is a message for cooperation and a common future for everyone in the Balkans. Serbia is deeply committed to cooperation in the region, in order to ensure peace and stability," said Brnabic.
