Belgian Parliamentary Delegation Visits National Assembly

A delegation of the Interparliamentary Group Belgium – Serbia of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Belgium, headed by its President David Geerts, visited the National Assembly and met, separately, with the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee and European Integration Committee, and the members of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications and the Committee on Labour, Social Issues, Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction.

The chairpersons of the Foreign Affairs Committee and European Integration Committee, Aleksandra Djurovic and Aleksandar Senic respectively, expressed their pleasure at the Belgian parliamentary delegation’s visit, highlighting the importance of parliamentary diplomacy for the improvement of overall bilateral relations between the two countries.
The chairpersons of the two Assembly committees briefed the members of the Belgian delegation on the activities of their respective committees and their role in the European integration process, stressing that all the political parties in the National Assembly are in agreement as regards EU accession. Aleksandra Djurovic and Aleksandar Senic also emphasised Serbia’s commitment to maintaining good-neighbourly relations which are crucial for the continued prosperity of the Western Balkan region.
The members of the Belgian delegation commended the efforts Serbia has put into the European integration process offering full support for its continuation.
The officials also exchanged experiences and views on the participation of the civil sector in the EU accession talks, and the Belgian parliamentarians had questions about the referendum procedure in Serbia and the public opinion as regards European integration.
The meeting was also attended by MPs Gordana Comic, Vesna Markovic and the Head of the PFG with Belgium Milan Stevanovic, as well as the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Serbia H.E. Leo D’aes.

The members of the Interparliamentary Group Belgium – Serbia and the members of the Committee on Finance, State Budget and Control of Public Spending, Committee on Spatial Planning, Transport, Infrastructure and Telecommunications and the Committee on Labour, Social Issues, Social Inclusion and Poverty Reduction agreed that the exchange of experiences and opinions between the Belgian and Serbian parliamentarians is extremely important. The members of the three National Assembly committees said that EU accession is Serbia’s priority and the National Assembly is hard at work on the harmonisation of the national legislation with the aEuropean. The representatives of the National Assembly committees and the members of the Belgian delegation discussed employment stimulation projects, especially ones aimed at young people and persons with disabilities, mobility of the labour force, as well as fiscal consolidation, taxation policy and infrastructural projects in the Republic of Serbia.
The meeting was attended by MPs Milanka Jevtic Vukojicic, Zoran Bojanic, Dr Blagoje Bradic, Momo Colakovic, MA Dejan Radenkovic, Milos Tosanic and he Head of the PFG with Belgium Milan Stevanovic.
