Azerbaijani Ambassador Talks to MPs Aleksandra Djurovic and Dr Dijana Vukomanovic

Azerbaijani Ambassador in Belgrade H.E. Eldar Hasanov visited the National Assembly where he had separate meetings with the Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to PACE, Aleksandra Djurovic, and the Head of the National Assembly Delegation to OSCE PA, Dr Dijana Vukomanovic.

The Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to PACE, Aleksandra Djurovic, and Azerbaijani Ambassador Eldar Hasanov agreed that the Serbian and Azerbaijani parliaments enjoy excellent cooperation and would continue the practice of mutual support in international institutions.

Speaking of the two nations’ traditional friendship, Ambassador Hasanov thanked Aleksandra Djurovic for her activities in the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Friendship Group with Azerbaijan. He conveyed his country’s interest for continued investments into agriculture and participation in the privatisation process in Serbia.

The Head of the National Assembly standing delegation to PACE, Aleksandra Djurovic informed the Ambassador about the upcoming visit of the PACE Monitoring Committee rapporteur stressing that Serbia was ready to fulfil all the procedural requirements of the monitoring process and enter into post-monitoring dialogues.

Djurovic thanked the Azerbaijani Ambassador for the assistance sent to counter the impact of the floods in Serbia, agreeing with him that there is room to boost the two countries’ economic relations.

In the course of their meeting, the Head of the National Assembly Delegation to OSCE PA, Dr Dijana Vukomanovic, and Azerbaijani Ambassador H.E. Eldar Hasanov stressed that the two countries and nations, who share similar historical experiences and the geographical position between the east and the west, enjoy traditionally friendly relations.

Vukomanovic thanked Azerbaijan for its principled position of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija and respect of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, in line with international principles and norms. The officials opined that Serbia and Azerbaijan should support one another in international institutions and organisation as regards their respective territorial integrity.

Noting Azerbaijani’s expanding economy, Vukomanovic underlined the significance economic cooperation and trade with the country have for Serbia. Ambassador Hasanov deemed that Serbia and Azerbaijan have achieved successful cooperation not only at the highest political and economic level, but also in the fields of education, sport and youth exchange, and in the sphere of culture – between authors, libraries and archives.
