Greeting the Algerian parliamentary delegation, the Head of the Parliamentary Friendship Group with Algeria Sasa Maksimovic thanked the Algerian people for their help in the recovery of the damages caused by the floods, as well as Algeria’s support and principled stance as regards respecting Serbia’s territorial integrity and not recognising the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo-Metohija. Maksimovic stressed that, though geographically distant, the Serbian and Algerian people share a similar history.
The officials discussed the options for furthering the traditionally good relations between Serbia and Algeria, especially as regards interparliamentary cooperation, as well as cooperation in the fields of economy, agriculture, construction, culture and tourism. They opined that parliamentary diplomacy, especially the activities of the two parliamentary friendship groups, should provide the key incentive for all types of cooperation between Serbia and Algeria.
In addition to the heads of the PFG with Algeria and Serbia, Sasa Maksimovic and Yazid Bourahla respectively, the meeting was also attended by member of the PFG with Algeria Dragomir Karic, members of the Foreign Affairs Committee Dragan Sormaz and Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Vladimir Djukanovic and Milos Tosanic, as well as the deputy speakers of the Algerian People’s National Assembly Djamel Bouras, Zehaira Bellatoui and Mahmoud Saci, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Cooperation and Emigration Boualem Bousmaha and rapporteur of the Committee on Culture, Information and Tourism Mohamed Sidi Moussa.
