At its ninth session, held on 24 May, representatives of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management acquainted the Agriculture Committee with the Bill on Medicines and Medical Supplies.
Dragomir Marisavljevic, Assistant to the Minister of Health, underlined that the Bill was in accordance with European Union directives, including those relating to veterinary medicines, and that it aimed at providing better animal health care.
Nada Damjanovic, Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, stressed that medicines for human and veterinary use had been made equal before the law for the first time. A veterinary section is envisaged as part of the future Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency.
As prescribed by the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly, the Committee did not vote on the Bill, as only some of its provisions can be considered the Committee’s field of competence. Committee members had no fundamental objections to the Bill’s provisions regulating the production, distribution, control and licencing of veterinary medicines.
