The Youth and Sports Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia held its eighth session on 19 October 2005. The Committee discussed the Bill on the Prevention of Use of Illicit Substances in Sports in principle and in particular.

The Bill on the Prevention of Use of Illicit Substances in Sports was presented by the Minister of Education in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Slobodan Vuksanovic. Mr Vuksanovic said that it was necessary to adopt a law to regulate the issue in accordance with European and global standards, as that would allow our athletes to compete in European and world events. He underlined that adoption of the Bill would ensure that Serbia was awarded several sports events to host which it had already applied.

Of a total of 26 amendments submitted to the Bill on the Prevention of Use of Illicit Substances in Sports, the Youth and Sports Committee did not endorse 14, while one amendment was withdrawn. The Government of the Republic of Serbia and the appropriate Committee endorsed 11 amendments, thereby making them integral parts of the Bill on the Prevention of Use of Illicit Substances in Sports.

The Youth and Sports Committee endorsed the Bill on the Prevention of Use of Illicit Substances in Sports in its entirety.

Members of the Youth and Sports Committee resolved to appoint the Committee’s chairman, Jovan Todorovic, Rapporteur on the Bill at the National Assembly session.
