63rd Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 13 February, the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee considered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Activity Report in the period 1 May 2018 – 1 February 2019.


The Report was presented by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic who said that the National Assembly is helping not just the Ministry, but the whole state, in the pursuit of the country’s foreign policy and praised its international activity.

He said that the Report is divided by Ministry sector, headed by assistant ministries, and focused mainly on multilateral activities. Dacic said that the country’s fight to maintain its territorial integrity is reflected in its activity within international organizations. He said that Serbia stands firm by its set foreign policy goals – maintenance of territorial integrity, EU accession, cooperation in the region and cooperation with the most influential and other countries in the world. He went on to speak about the UN, OSCE, PACE, UNESCO and INTERPOL as regards the efforts to, with the help of other countries, thwart so-called Kosovo’s bid to join them. He briefed the Committee members on the efforts to have UNSC sessions on the Secretary General’s report on the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, concluding that these reports would continue to be deliberated on. He said that many countries are pressured by the US to recognize Kosovo, especially Latin American countries among them Paraguay, Ecuador, Uruguay and Brazil, stating that the Ministry would continue to strengthen relations with these countries, as well as the countries of the Caribbean and Pacific. The Minister announced a new Law on Foreign Affairs which he hoped the National Assembly would pass by the end of the year. He also presented the work of the sector in charge of bilateral relations and the region and the work of the consular affairs sector.

Following a debate, the Committee members accepted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Activity Report in the period 1 May 2018 – 1 February 2019.

The Committee members adopted five initiatives for visits, noted the regular activities of the National Assembly’s standing delegations, adopted reports on visits realized, noted the parliamentary and other realized contacts, as well as the changes to the composition of the PFGs with Venezuela and Georgia.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Ljiljana Malusic, Dusica Stojkovic, Jovan Palalic, Maja Macuzic Puzic, Stefana Miladinovic, Djordje Kosanic, Dr Milorad Mijatovic, Natasa Mihailovic Vacic, Dubravka Filipovski and Marija Obradovic.
