61st Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee

At the sitting held on 25 January, the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee adopted reviewed the 2018 annual reports of the National Assembly’s standing delegations to international parliamentary institutions.

Committee Chairman Prof. Dr Zarko Obradovic said that little is known about the work and status of the National Assembly’s 11 standing delegations to international parliamentary institutions. Of the 11 delegations, eight have the status of full member, one of associate member (NATO PA), and two have the status of observer (Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie and CSTO PA), said Chairman Obradovic adding that the membership of the delegations ranges between two and eight. Obradovic said that all of them had improved the degree of involvement and results achieved which the international organizations had recognized and decided to have sessions in Belgrade. He proudly announced that Belgrade will be hosting the 141st IPU Assembly in October of this year.

The activities of the standing delegations were then presented by their respective heads: Aleksandra Tomic (PACE), Dragan Sormaz (NATO PA), Jadranka Jovanovic (Parliamentary Assembly of La Francophonie), Aleksandar Cotric (IAO), Milovan Drecun (CSTO PA) and IPU delegation member Dr Sanda Raskovic Ivic.

Following a debate, the Committee accepted all the reports.

The Agreement was signed to promote bilateral relations between Serbia and UAE, boost economic and overall cooperation. It is a typical visa abolition agreement and will secure a visa-free regime for Serbian citizens since by the original agreement Serbia had rescinded visas for citizens of UAE, said Jovanovic.
