54th Sitting of the European Integration Committee
At the sitting held on 1 March, the European Integration Committee discussed the Report on the Serbia’s EU accession talks during the Presidency of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the period 1 July - 31 December 2015.
The Report was presented by Jadranka Joksimovic, Minister without portfolio responsible for European integration, who said that during the Luxembourg Presidency Serbia opened the first negotiation chapters - 32 and 35, and set up the Negotiating Team, headed by Tanja Miscevic. The Minister added that the European Union has a positive stance on Serbia’s accession, has given a positive assessment of the inclusiveness of the opened chapters and expects Serbia to open at last four new chapters by the end of the year. Joksimovic stressed that though Serbia has not set up the association/community of Serb majority municipalities, Belgrade maintains the technical level of dialogue with Pristina, and Serbia sees the European Commission as the best guarantor of communication in the negotiations.
Joksimovic also added that according to latest polls 48% of Serbian citizens are in favour of Serbia’s EU accession.
The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairman Aleksandar Senic and attended by Committee members and deputy members Dr Aleksandra Tomic, Elvira Kovacs, Prim. Dr Ninoslav Giric, Dragan Sormaz, Vesna Markovic, Branko Ruzic, Natasa Vuckovic, Irena Aleksic, Dr Ivan Bauer and Dr Vladimir Orlic, and representatives of the competent ministry.
