At the session held on 16 February, members of the Youth and Sports Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia discussed the implementation of the “Youth + Health = Sports” project. The project, financed by the OSCE Mission to Serbia and Montenegro, aims to analyse the most important issues concerning the development of sports in Serbia at all levels, especially those relating to young people and their physical and spiritual development. The Committee resolved to take the opportunity offered by the project and visit primary and secondary schools in underdeveloped communities to gain comprehensive insight into the specific needs of children and adolescents.
The project is to be realised in four phases, through two-day visits by Committee members to primary and secondary schools in the Pomoravlje, Nisava, Toplica and Macva Districts. The programme also foresees holding roundtables devoted to the state, equipment and usage of school gyms, and the role played by local self-government bodies in developing sports activities. As planned, the discussions are to involve school headmasters, physical education teachers, educationalists, school psychologists and local officials.
The first phase of the project is to begin on 24 February 2005.
Members of the Committee resolved to send a circular letter to all sports associations and major sports clubs in Serbia to initiate better exchange of information about the associations and ensure better future co-operation.
