3rd session of the Committee on Environmental Protection
At its third session, held on 21 April, the Committee on Environmental Protection discussed reports on the activities of Serbian Environmental Protection Agency and the Recycling Agency for 2003, as well as the Information of the Republic Weather Bureau on air and water quality on the territory of the Republic of Serbia.

The Vranje municipal assembly and the Environmental Protection Directorate forwarded information on measures taken to de-contaminate the Pljackovica site, potentially dangerous for the city of Vranje. Members of the committee asked the appropriate bodies to monitor water quality on the territory of Vranje as well as the health of the local population, as an increase in the incidence of illness is possible due to the presence of depleted uranium.
The session also discussed the Information of the Environmental Protection Directorate on hazardous waste removed from the Novi Popovac cement plant in 2002. The Committee requested a report from the Ministry of the Interior on the course of the investigation carried out against persons responsible for the incident, and asked the Environmental Protection Directorate to provide further information on measures taken to de-contaminate the area.
