33, 34 and 35th Sitting of the Security Services Control Committee

At the 33, 34 and 35th sitting, held on 27 December 2019, the Security Services Control Committee considered and adopted the Security Information Agency Activity Report and Report on the security situation in the Republic of Serbia, as well as the Military Intelligence Agency and Military Security Agency Activity Report for the period 1 April – 30 September 2019. The Committee also considered and adopted the minutes of the supervisory visits to the security services the Committee had visited in the previous period.

Following a detailed consideration, with a special focus on global and regional threats, the Committee declared the security situation in the Republic of Serbia stable despite the country’s continued exposure to different higher or lesser-degree challenges, risks and threats.

In the reporting period, the security services focused their activities on protecting Serbia’s vital national interests and, within their purview as stipulated by law, on key security risks and threats – activities of foreign intelligence services, abuse of illegal migration for terrorist activities, separatism, religious, ethnic and ideological extremism and organized crime.

The Committee noted that the security services are continuously working on the neutralisation of identified security risks and threats to Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

It praised the regular exchange of information between the security services, as well as with other competent authorities. The Committee also praised the security services’ continuous advancement of bilateral and multilateral cooperation with partner services and Serbian authorities.

Having previously presented the Director of the Security Information Agency with a plaque, the Security Services Control Committee also presented plaques for contributions and strengthening of the capacities of the sector of security and civil control of the security services to Brigadier General Zoran Stojkovic, Director of the Military Intelligence Agency, and Brigadier General Djura Jovanic, Director of the Military Security Agency.
