2nd session of the Foreign Affairs Committee

The session of the Foreign Affairs Committee held on 22 March discussed the international aspects of the terror campaign targeting the Serbian and non-Albanian population in Kosovo and Metohia.

The session of the Foreign Affairs Committee held on 22 March discussed the international aspects of the terror campaign targeting the Serbian and non-Albanian population in Kosovo and Metohia. The Committee unanimously resolved to suggest to the National Assembly to hold an emergency session to discuss the situation in Kosovo and Metohia.

It was resolved that the National Assembly and the Committee should inform the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, as well as UNESCO and foreign policy committees of UN member states' parliaments, on the current situation. The Committee is especially stressing the fact that if the planned terror and ethnic cleansing currently being perpetrated against Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo and Metohia is not dealt with decisively, it will have serious and far-reaching consequences for the entire region.

The session was chaired by Gordana Comic, chairperson of the Committee.

The Committee went on to endorse the Report on International Co-operation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia in 2003, its own Programme of Activities for the period April-December 2004, as well as the Information on the Third Report of the Council of Europe Monitoring Mission for Serbia and Montenegro, passed at the session of the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers on 20 February 2004 in Strasbourg.

The Committee also selected representatives of the National Assembly who will attend a seminar organised by the International Monetary Fund from 12 to 16 April in Vienna, Austria.
