At the sitting of the Education Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia held on 21 June 2006, Committee members endorsed the Bill Amending and Modifying the Act on Textbooks and Other Teaching Aids.

The Committee also endorsed the nomination of Dr Oskar Kovac, Professor at the Megatrend University Faculty of Geo-economics, for membership on the National University Education Council; Dr Kovac had been nominated by the Conference of Serbian Universities.

Pursuant to Article 10 of the University Education Act, the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia is authorised to set the amount of remuneration for members of the National University Education Council and the Accreditation and Quality Control Commission. At today’s sitting the Education Committee adopted decisions setting remuneration for members of the two bodies at the level of two average monthly salaries in the Republic of Serbia. Vice-chairpersons are to be entitled to the equivalent of 2.2 average monthly salaries, while chairpersons of both bodies are to receive the equivalent of 2.5 average monthly salaries in the Republic of Serbia.

The Committee resolved that its member Svetlana Stojanovic is to attend sittings of the National Education Council, while Nadica Momirov is to be member of the Education Sub-Group, formed by the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Policy under the United Nations Millennium Declaration.

The sitting was chaired by the Committee’s chairperson, Donka Banovic, and attended by officials of the Ministry of Education and Sports – State Secretary Milos Jankovic and Secretary Biserka Markovic.
