22nd Sitting of the Environmental Protection Committee

At the 21st sitting, held on 16 May, the members of the Environmental Protection Committee reviewed the Ministry of Environmental Protection Activity Information for the period November, December 2018 and January 2019.

The Activity Information was presented by Minister of Environmental Protection Goran Trivan who said that all the Ministry sectors are performing their duties, that the Ministry itself is being modernized, however with the volume and complexity of the work at hand the Ministry finds itself lacking in staff. He went on to praise the Ministry’s admirable international cooperation, adding that it would secure the funds needed to draft the necessary technical project documentation for the goals set before it, among others concerning wastewater treatment and waste management.

The officials also spoke about the climate change law and its entry into assembly procedure, as well as environmental laws, which the Ministry said should be ready by June of this year.

They also touched on Negotiation Chapter 27 which the Ministry will have ready by the end of the year, which is a year ahead of schedule, however the opening itself depends on the European Commission.

Following the discussion, the Committee members adopted the Ministry of Environmental Protection Activity Information for the period November, December 2018 and January 2019.
