21st session of the Agriculture Committee and 11th session of the Environmental Protection Committee
The Agriculture and Environmental Protection Committees held a joint session on 28 December.The deputies discussed the report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management on the implementation of the Directive on Measures of Protection of Forests and Plants from the Gypsy Moth Pest.

The deputies discussed the report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management on the implementation of the Directive on Measures of Protection of Forests and Plants from the Gypsy Moth Pest. Representatives of the Forestry Directorate and the Environmental Protection Directorate took part in the session, as did representatives of municipalities at risk from the pests.
The Committees agreed that local authorities should take part in pest control, and that local administrative bodies should take part, according to their abilities, in financing and enlisting the services of non-governmental environmental protection associations dealing with these issues. The Committee asked the Ministry to initiate a campaign in the media promoting the fight against the gypsy moth, as well as to finance the spraying from the air of affected areas, according to a risk assessment. Effects of these activities should be investigated after they have been carried out, the deputies concluded.
