20th Sitting of the Environmental Protection Committee

At the sitting held on 19 March, the Environmental Protection Committee discussed the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning Activity Report, covering the period November-December 2012 and January 2013.

Presenting the Report, the Minister of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning, Milan Bacevic, informed the Committee members that the Spatial Planning Sector was the most active in said period. He stressed that the Government had adopted an Ordinance on the establishment of a Spatial Plan for the special purpose area of the South Stream transnational gas pipeline, and is preparing a law on the confirmation of national interest which would declare the project a project of national interest. According to the project, the entire Serbia would be covered by the gas pipeline thus becoming energy independent, said Minister Bacevic.
The second important project approved by the Government is a feasibility study of the Danube-Morava-Vardar hydro-system. According to the Minister, both projects offer ample job opportunities for our people, as well as the recruitment of construction operatives.
The Minister went on to inform the Committee members that a law on bio-geological research in mining was currently being drafted, as was a new law on the management of fishing areas and forests.
Following a debate in which the Committee members asked the Minister many questions about nickel exploitation, construction work in national parks and the Ministry’s inspectorial supervision, the Committee adopted the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning Activity Report, covering the period November-December 2012 and January 2013.
