19th Sitting of the Environmental Protection Committee

At the sitting held on 26 November, the members of the Environmental Protection Committee considered the Bill on Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security, submitted by MP Maja Gojkovic, in principle.


The Bill was presented by Branko Brajic, Assistant Director of the Serbian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency. Brajic stressed that in the nine years since the adoption of the Law on Ionizing Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety there have been significant technological advances and new findings in the field which need to be regulated by this new law. The new law aims to improve the level of health protection for the individual, population and the environment against the damaging effects of ionizing radiation. This law will establish strict and comprehensive supervision of the sources of ionizing radiation and nuclear facilities, radiation-related and nuclear activities and radioactive waste management. Agency Director Sladjan Velinov added that the Bill is to be followed by about 30 by-laws.
Following a discussion the Committee accepted the Bill on Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security, in principle.

The sitting was chaired by Committee Chairperson Ivana Stojiljkovic, and attended by the following Committee members and deputy members: Radoslav Cokic, Borka Grubor, Branko Popovic, Gordana Comic, Dusko Tarbuk, Milena Turk, Jasmina Karanac, Zoran Despotovic, Prof. Dr Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic, Ivana Nikolic and representatives of the Green Chair.
