The study on “The AP Vojvodina fish fund and roundworms” was presented to the Committee members by Docent Dr Olivera Bjelic Cabrilo of the Ecology and Environmental Protection Department of the Novi Sad Faculty of Science and Mathematics. She spoke about how the infection spreads in the river fish, explaining that the organic loading of the water system is conducive to the transport of parasites. Prof. Dr Branko Miljanovic of the Biology and Environmental Protection Department of the Novi Sad Faculty of Science and Mathematics, Dr Vera Nikolic of the Zoology Institute of the Belgrade Faculty of Biology, Dr Vesna Djikanovic of the Sinisa Stankovic Institute for Biological Research and Slobodan Puzovic, Provincial Secretary for Urbanism, Construction and Environmental Protection, discussed the analysis of the health of river fish. They said that a there is no true insight into the situation as regards the parasitic infection of river fish, and that the topic calls for research and study so as to reach accurate data.
In the discussion, the participants talked about the state of the river ecosystem in some parts of Serbia and there were suggestions and proposals about the options for improving the existing situation and addressing the numerous issues in the field.
The Committee members agreed that keeping the public duly informed on the safety of river fish calls for monitoring the quality of river water and appealing against the eradication of certain types of birds. It was also noted that the organic loading of certain river waters caused by waste water spillage into rivers is the key trigger for the development of parasites. They emphasised that river fish is completely safe for consumption if properly thermically treated.
The Committee held the sitting in line with article 72, paragraph 5, of the National Assembly Rules of Procedure.
