19th Sitting of the Culture and Information Committee

At the sitting held on 16 December, the Culture and Information Committee discussed and adopted the Republic Broadcasting Agency Activity Information for the period January-December 2012.


Republic Broadcasting Agency Council President Dr Porfirije Peric, Bishop of Jegar, spoke of the Agency’s work in said period stressing that within it the Agency had issued 48 reprimands, 19 unlicensed broadcasting bans and filed 685 misdemeanour charges against broadcasters.
The Committee members asked about the Republic Broadcasting Agency’s authority to ban the broadcasting of certain content and the existence of mechanisms which would allow the Republic Broadcasting Agency to influence the media landscape in Serbia. The participants also analysed the work of public services and commercial television and talked about the need to increase the number of culture-related shows on national broadcasting frequencies.
Committee Chairperson Vesna Marjanovic pointed out that the amount of fees paid to the members of all the independent regulatory bodies should be regulated and made consistent.
The Committee went on to formulate the candidate list for RTS Broadcasting Corporation Programme Board member. Dr Nebojsa Kuzmanovic from Backa Palanka was nominated new member from the ranks of candidates proposed by the Republic Broadcasting Agency, to replace Prof. Dr Zoran Avramovic who had resigned.
