18th Sitting of the Culture and Information Committee

At the sitting held on 18 December, the members of the Culture and Information Committee discussed the current situation as regards cinema “Zvezda” (Star).

The sitting was attended by Assistant Director of the Privatisation Agency Dusko Pudja who explained that the privatisation of cinema “Zvezda” had followed proper procedure, stressing that there had been no specificities compared to other privatisation procedures.
The City Culture Secretary Vladan Vukosavljevic said that he was ready to propose talks with the owner of cinema “Zvezda” so as to resolve the situation as soon as possible, adding that the City Secretariat endorses the motives of the young people protesting the situation in “Zvezda”.
Culture and Information Committee member Srdjan Dragojevic informed the Committee members that a task force would be set up, in agreement with Minister of Economy Zeljko Sertic, to examine the facts on the privatisation of cinema “Zvezda”, which should include a Committee member.
Srdjan Dragojevic suggested that cinema “Zvezda” should be turned into an “art house” cinema, a self-sustained cinema, the money for which could be secured from the available European funds.
The Committee did not discuss the Ministry of Culture and Media Information on the preparations of the Bill amending and modifying the Law on Culture because there were no Ministry representatives present at the Committee sitting.
