17th Sitting of the Foreign Affairs Committee
At the sitting held on 23 May, the members of the Foreign Affairs Committee discussed the priorities of the National Assembly’s international activities in the context of financial planning.
The Committee concluded to send a request to the National Assembly Speaker asking that the National Assembly Speaker’s proposals as regards ascertaining the composition of ad hoc delegations be maximally reduced and that the National Assembly’s four standing delegations to international organisations be given priority (OSCE, CoE, OSCT and NATO). The conclusion also states that the Committee will be sending a request to the National Assembly Speaker asking that the National Assembly Speaker and the Secretary General reduce the composition of the ad hoc delegations previously approved by the Foreign Affairs Committee. The conclusion also states that the Committee will be sending a request to the Secretary General asking that the Committee be forwarded a financial report on the ad hoc and standing delegations of the National Assembly accompanied by a comparison with the standing delegations’ expenses in the past two years.
The Committee members also decided to return the proposal to establish the composition of the National Assembly delegation to visit the Republic of Lithuania to the initiator, asking that they submit a rationale for the composition of the delegation to the Committee.
The Committee sitting was also attended by Jana Ljubicic, National Assembly Secretary General.
The Committee will discuss the remaining items on its agenda in the continuation of the sitting.
